Efficient drying and cleaning of recycled glass for further processing in the glass sorting

The challenge

• Drying and cleaning recycled glass, as well as removing adhering labels, is an important process step in preparing a glass sort.
• In the pre-sorting stage, foreign materials such as plastic bags or plastic bottles are first sorted out by hand, coarser pieces of glass are crushed, and ferrous and non-ferrous metals are separated from the waste glass using magnetic and eddy current separators. The mixture left behind consists of glass, labels, corks, plastic caps and other organic contaminants.
• To prepare the material for sorting, the used glass must first be dried and pre-cleaned to sort out labels and other organic impurities.

 The solution

• The Allgaier Dry Cleaning Drum RTT combines the process steps of cleaning and drying in just one machine, while at the same time eliminating the disadvantages of other processes.
• The glass material to be cleaned is gently circulated in a cleaning drum upstream of the dryer drum. In the process, the labels and organic residues are detached by the turbulence and friction of the individual glass particles. At the same time, disintegration of the product is prevented as far as possible.

The result

• As all solid particles of different particle sizes are passed through the hot gas stream with the lifting bucket, the recycled glass is dried very efficiently with the Dry Cleaning Drum RTT.
• The processing of waste glass with the drum dryers from Allgaier is suitable for both coarse and fine solids. In addition, the process is insensitive to very coarse or heavy solids and achieves a high degree of cleaning during the drying process.
• Due to the direct mounting of the burner, there is minimal effort for the supply air equipment.
• The dry cleaning drum requires very little electrical energy
• Following the drying and cleaning process, the processed recycled glass is further processed in the glass sorting plant.
